Becker’s Hotel

Olewiger Straße 206 D 54295 Trier, Germany

You will be in a state of constant confusion at Becker’s. One half – the Weinhaus – is a Hansel and Gretel gingerbread house, and the other is Trier’s answer to an austere Berlin art gallery. It works surprisingly well, and allows you to choose between minimal, monochrome rooms or rural B&B-style options. On the terrace, sup wine from white sofas and gaze up at the family’s vineyards. Becker’s is just outside of the city, known as Augusta Treverorum when it was founded by the Romans. Trier lies in Moselle wine country, the perfect base for a tasting trip. Those local tipples go well with multi-course meals at the two-Michelin-starred restaurant or rustic Weinhaus – different menus to suit either your designer or Barbour pockets. JW. Doubles from £51
